About Afrofeast — Africa's Food, Travel & Culture Blog
About Afrofeast
Born on the streets of Melbourne. Now exploring the world.
Who We Are
Afrofeast is Africa's leading food, travel and culture blog — a trusted guide for anyone who wants to experience Africa, the diaspora, and Asia authentically, affordably, and responsibly.
We are more than a travel blog. We are a global culinary and cultural movement, building bridges between the African continent, the African diaspora, and Asia. Whether you are planning your first trip to East Africa, searching for the best street food in Addis Ababa, navigating a heritage journey to Ghana, or exploring the flavours of Southeast Asia — Afrofeast is your knowledgeable friend on the ground. We don't just sit behind computers - we travel.
Our Story
Afrofeast was founded in 2013 by Ugandan-born Dennis Obel in Melbourne, Australia — as the country's first Pan-African gourmet food truck. A Volkswagen van wrapped in bold Ndebele geometric patterns, serving Ugandan Rolex, South African Bunny Chow, and lamb curry at festivals across Melbourne. It became a Top 10 Melbourne food truck, featured in TimeOut Melbourne, the Herald Sun, and Salt Magazine.
But the vision was always bigger than the streets.
"I realised that the hunger for our culture wasn't just physical — it was digital."
Afrofeast evolved from a food truck into a global travel and lifestyle brand — covering food, heritage travel, cultural events, and practical guides across 54 African countries and Asia. Today, 13 years on, Afrofeast reaches travellers, food lovers, and culture seekers across Pinterest, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube.
Meet Amen - The Face of Afrofeast
At the heart of the Afrofeast story is Amen, our official Brand Ambassador and the vibrant soul of everything we represent.
Known for her authentic energy, cultural pride, and high-fashion elegance, Amen brings the Afrofeast brand to life on the ground — travelling the world, documenting authentic flavours, celebrating African heritage, and connecting communities across continents. Proudly Ethiopian, she embodies the spirit of the African diaspora: rooted in culture, open to the world, and always hungry for the next great experience.
Through her journeys documented on Afrofeast Tiktok, Afrofeast Instagram and Afrofeast Facebook, Amen showcases the global lifestyle that defines the brand — from the street food markets of Addis Ababa to the cultural festivals of the diaspora. She is not just a face on a campaign. She is a storyteller, a cultural bridge, and a living example of what Afrofeast stands for.
